Brief profile
I have retired as Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Stella Maris College, on 30 April 2023 (DOB: 4 Feb 1963). I have served in various administrative positions, including, Vice Principal, Head of the department, Dean (Academic Affairs), NCC officer, and so on.
I have over 30 years of experience in academia and have guided over 50 post-graduate/M.Phil students on their dissertations, and 5 doctoral scholars. I have been on the doctoral committee of 32 students and was the Viva-Voce examiner for 14 candidates.
Research: My doctoral dissertation and area of interest are in the area of Fuzzy mathematics in which I've published 33 international publications. My first paper which is a single-authored paper is on Finite dimensional fuzzy normed linear space. This paper contributes to fundamental work in the area of fuzzy normed linear space and there are works based on fuzzy normed linear space of the Felbin’s type. In 2013, we defined octagonal fuzzy numbers for the first time, which has been well-received by the scientific community. Currently, my publications have 826 Citations (according to Google scholar), h-index 6, and i10 index 4 (as on 01 May 2023). More on these two fundamental works can be found here.
I have also served as the corresponding or associate editor for special issues of some International journals in the field of Mathematics.
Awards and Recognitions: I have won several awards in India and abroad, the latest of which is the Distinguished Professor Award 2021 by the Institute of Researchers, India. I was elected as a Fellow of the International Forum on Analysis in 2003, General Secretary of, the International Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics (over various periods), to mention a few. As a NCC officer, I received the best officer-cadet DG silver plaque of Honour award (1995). I was invited as a Visiting Professor to the Department of Mathematics, H.P.University, Shimla under UGC sponsored SAP Programme (August 1-8, 2009).
Roles and Positions: Before my term as the Vice Principal, I had served as the Dean of Academic Affairs, Head of department of Mathematics.I have been part of several decision making councils/committees of the college such as Governing Body, Academic Council, BoS, Research Ethics, NAAC, Autonomy Review, finance committee etc. I was also a member of the PG Board of Mathematics, University of Madras and subsequently appointed by the University as a subject expert on the Faculty Recruitment Board for colleges under the University of Madras during the year 2017-2018. I was appointed by the TamilNadu government as one of the authors of the +2 Mathematics text book in the year 2005, again as a domain expert for the +1 and +2 textbooks in 2015 and to conduct several in-service training programs for school and college teachers.
Throughout my career, I have been involved in organising several International Conferences bringing eminent people in the field, whom I am associated with. I have also been instrumental in introducing an International PG Programme in Data Science at Stella Maris, in collaboration with GITTA, Research Park, IITM Chennai and Liverpool Hope University, UK.
